For Us

We are creating a voice for New Zealand – one that speaks of where we’ve come from and where we’re going.

Our Vision

We see in our vision for the revitalisation of HBMAG a new wing bringing in light, a cluster of rooms to house permanent collections and visiting exhibitions, storage rooms and work spaces for our team of museum curators, archivists and educators. Architecturally designed and sympathetic to the original building, the restoration will equally fit within the Napier cityscape and lift HBMAG onto the international museum map.

The need for this building is as relevant now as when first built. The Museum, opened in 1936, is still a repository for many collections of national and international importance.

The Century Theatre, built forty years later for concerts, dance recitals, lectures and drama, still hosts many events each year.
